Roof & Overhead — Double Glazing
Pane Relief double-glazing for roof & overhead applications. The information below covers the products and considerations specific to this use case. Use the configurator above to spec your exact dimensions and glass for an instant price.
Made to Measure Double Glazed Unit — Roof & Overhead
Overhead glazing — rooflights, skylights, canopies, and walkways — carries specific safety requirements that standard double-glazed units don't meet. Our made-to-measure overhead units use toughened outer pane and laminated inner pane as standard, complying with BS EN 12600 for overhead positions.
If the outer toughened pane breaks, the pieces fall away safely. The inner laminated pane holds together, maintaining the weather barrier and preventing glass fragments from falling onto people below. This safety-first configuration is a legal requirement for overhead glazing in the UK.
Your Specification, Made to Order
Every made-to-measure unit is manufactured to your exact dimensions by our partner factory. We offer the full range of glass types, coatings, gas fills, and spacer bar options — specify exactly what your project needs.
Self-Cleaning Glazed Unit — Roof & Overhead Glass
Overhead glazing — rooflights, conservatory roofs, atriums, and glass canopies — is virtually impossible to clean from the outside without specialist access equipment. Our Self-Cleaning Glazed Unit is the perfect solution: the self-cleaning coating keeps the outer face clean automatically, while the natural pitch of roof glazing (typically 15°+) provides the ideal angle for rainwater sheeting.
The self-cleaning coating requires a minimum 15° glass angle to function effectively — anything steeper works better. Since most roof glazing is installed at 15–45°, overhead applications are actually the ideal use case. The coating works best on surfaces that receive regular rainfall and some UV exposure — exactly the conditions roof glass experiences.
How Self-Cleaning Glass Works
The self-cleaning coating uses a dual-action process:
- Photocatalytic action: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) in the coating reacts with UV light to break down organic dirt at the molecular level — bird droppings, tree sap, pollen, and general atmospheric grime are decomposed on the glass surface.
- Hydrophilic action: The coating makes the glass surface attract water rather than repelling it. Rain spreads into a thin, even sheet instead of forming droplets — this sheet washes away the loosened dirt particles, leaving the glass clean and streak-free.
The coating is applied during glass manufacture and is permanent — it cannot be washed off, scratched away with normal cleaning, or degraded by UV exposure (UV is what activates it).
Self-cleaning glass can be combined with Low-E coatings, toughened or laminated glass, and argon gas fill — no compromise on thermal or safety performance.
