Clear Double Glazed Unit — Commercial Display & Retail
For shop windows, display cases, galleries, and retail frontages, colour accuracy and clarity matter more than thermal performance. Our Clear Double Glazed Unit uses uncoated float glass on both panes, delivering true colour rendering without the slight green or blue tint that Low-E coatings can introduce.
Fashion retailers, jewellers, art galleries, and showrooms need customers to see products in their true colours. Low-E coatings, while excellent for thermal performance, alter the colour temperature of transmitted light — typically adding a slight warm cast. Our clear/clear unit eliminates this, giving you a perfectly neutral window display.
Specification
Two panes of clear float glass separated by a sealed cavity. Available in 24mm (4-16-4) or 28mm (4-20-4) overall thickness to suit your frame rebate.
- U-value: 2.8 W/m²K (air) or 2.6 W/m²K (argon upgrade)
- Light transmittance: ~80%
- Overall thickness: 24mm or 28mm
- Glass: 4mm clear float both panes
Note: this unit does not meet current Building Regulations Part L for heated living spaces. For heated rooms requiring Building Control sign-off, choose our Low-E Argon IGU or triple-glazed range instead.
Made to Measure Double Glazed Unit — Commercial Custom Fit
Commercial premises rarely use standard window sizes. Whether you're glazing a shopfront, office, restaurant, or retail unit, our made-to-measure double-glazed units are cut to your exact requirements — including non-standard dimensions, special glass types, and enhanced specifications.
For commercial fit-outs, we offer toughened glass as standard for safety compliance in public-access areas. Low-E coatings and argon gas fill are available for energy performance. Large panels up to 2900mm × 1500mm can be made in a single sealed unit — ideal for modern shopfront designs.
Your Specification, Made to Order
Every made-to-measure unit is manufactured to your exact dimensions by our partner factory. We offer the full range of glass types, coatings, gas fills, and spacer bar options — specify exactly what your project needs.
Self-Cleaning Glazed Unit — Commercial Cleaning Cost Reduction
Professional window cleaning is a significant recurring cost for commercial buildings. Our Self-Cleaning Glazed Unit reduces the frequency of professional cleans by 50–70%, cutting your annual maintenance budget substantially. For multi-storey offices, hotels, and retail buildings, the savings compound rapidly.
A typical commercial cleaning contract costs £200–500+ per clean for a medium-sized office building. Reducing cleans from monthly to quarterly saves £1,800–4,500 per year. Over the 10-year warranty life of our self-cleaning units, that's £18,000–45,000 in avoided cleaning costs — far exceeding the premium for self-cleaning glass.
How Self-Cleaning Glass Works
The self-cleaning coating uses a dual-action process:
- Photocatalytic action: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) in the coating reacts with UV light to break down organic dirt at the molecular level — bird droppings, tree sap, pollen, and general atmospheric grime are decomposed on the glass surface.
- Hydrophilic action: The coating makes the glass surface attract water rather than repelling it. Rain spreads into a thin, even sheet instead of forming droplets — this sheet washes away the loosened dirt particles, leaving the glass clean and streak-free.
The coating is applied during glass manufacture and is permanent — it cannot be washed off, scratched away with normal cleaning, or degraded by UV exposure (UV is what activates it).
Self-cleaning glass can be combined with Low-E coatings, toughened or laminated glass, and argon gas fill — no compromise on thermal or safety performance.
