Why Door Glass Is Different to Window Glass
Unlike standard window glass, all glass fitted in doors must comply with BS 6206 and BS EN 12600 safety standards. These regulations exist because doors are high-traffic areas — people walk into them, children play near them, and they're subjected to constant opening and closing. That's why we exclusively fit toughened safety glass or laminated glass in every door replacement across Bristol.
Toughened glass is heated to over 600°C and rapidly cooled, making it up to five times stronger than standard float glass. If it does break, it shatters into small, relatively harmless granules rather than dangerous shards. Laminated glass takes security a step further — two panes bonded with an interlayer that holds the glass together even when broken, making it extremely difficult to penetrate.
Types of Door Glass We Supply and Fit
We carry a comprehensive range of glass types to suit every door style and requirement. Clear toughened glass is our most popular option for patio doors and French doors, offering unobstructed garden views with full safety compliance. For front doors and side panels, obscure and patterned glass provides privacy whilst allowing natural light — we stock over 20 patterns including Cotswold, Flemish, and Stippolyte.
Energy-rated sealed units with Low-E coatings and argon gas filling help keep your home warm and your energy bills down. For homeowners in busy Bristol areas like Fishponds, Bedminster, or the City Centre, we also offer acoustic laminated glass that significantly reduces noise transmission through door panels.
Door Types We Work With
Our glaziers are experienced with every type of door found in Bristol homes. Sliding patio doors are one of our most common jobs — the large sealed units are prone to seal failure, and we can replace them without disturbing the door mechanism. French doors often feature multiple smaller panes, and we can replace individual panels or all units in one visit.
Composite front doors have become hugely popular across areas like Clifton, Henleaze, and Bradley Stoke. These doors typically feature decorative glass cassettes that can be replaced without changing the entire door — saving you hundreds of pounds. uPVC back doors and bi-fold doors are equally straightforward, with most replacements completed in under two hours.
Emergency Door Glass Replacement
A broken door pane is a security emergency. Whether it's a late-night break-in attempt in Kingswood or storm damage to your patio doors in Portishead, we respond quickly. Our emergency service includes immediate boarding to secure your property, followed by permanent glass replacement — typically within 24 hours. We carry common door glass sizes on our vans, so many jobs are completed same-day.
For homeowners across Bristol, Keynsham, Thornbury, and Bath, we're just a phone call away. Our team understands the urgency of broken door glass and we never charge call-out fees, even for emergency work.
